A little slow at the beginning, but really enjoyed overall.
Tropes- friends to lovers, chronic illness and anxiety rep. Abandonment, death of parent, marriage of convenience, women in male dominated industry.
Loved Theo and Evie! Obviously.

This was a fun romcom that touched on deeper topics like grief and chronic illness, and was a perfect example of what I think of when I say I want a light, contemporary romance. I loved how the main characters were driven by rich personal histories, and their characterization made them feel multi-dimensional and real. I particularly liked walking through our main characters’ jobs with them, and I found their respective careers to be fun and interesting parts of the story and their worldviews.
There was a good deal of miscommunication in this book, but Kanter made it feel like something a bit sad and circumstantial rather than a frustrating trope only meant for the plot to progress. I look forward to whatever project she’s working on next!

Evelyn is an aspiring Foley artist who gets accepted to her dream fellowship, but after learning that there are no benefits, she gets married to her best friend Theo. They get married so she can share his insurance and he can keep his apartment.
This was cute-such a unique premise! I haven't read a marriage of convenience, so this was a good start. The characters are very deep and flawed. There is so much to learn about these two. This is not a rom-com, as the book dives into topics like grief and Evie's chronic illness.
The characters were likeable to an extent. Evie kind of got on my nerves near the end of the book because she is so stubborn. I can understand why she is this way, but it was hard to overlook. The writing was good, but it got very repetitive in my personal opinion.
Anyway, this was a good, refreshing book to read. Read if you like:
