It was a little confusing at the beginning but became clear as you continued. Keep going- it is worth it!! Interesting to learn what happened post WWII to the Nazis. So sad how little value they placed on human life.

I'm not a big historical trope fan, but this is an exception. This was a good read, the characters were built nicely and it's well written.  I love that the facts were added at the end of the book, very interesting!

It took me a little bit to get into it but I am very glad I finished it. And the end was a whirlwind that I did not enjoy being on—but in the way that you secretly do enjoy it, you just hate that you have to see these characters suffer.

The author did an incredible job making these people feel fully fleshed out and real.

I’m not big into HF but I would pick up another book by her. You can just feel the deep research that went into this story and that makes it feel so much more authentic. There are nuances and grey areas, and not all the strings are tied up, but in the way that life just happens to be.

I don’t normally read historical fiction, it I really enjoyed this book for my book club’s February pick. I enjoyed the writing style and the characters. Some of the foreshadowing is pretty heavy handed in my opinion, partially due to being YA, I think. But it didn’t detract from my experience at all. Rather, it made me want to read it more and faster so I could get that rush of being right haha!

The book is also very well researched. I could envision so many of the scenes so easily as if I were watching a movie, without the prose being overly descriptive and taking me out of the moment.
If you like historical fiction, and particularly if you are interested in WWII and it’s aftermath, I highly recommend checking this book out.
