My Thoughts:
This is a quick beach-read kind of book. I definitely got hooked in fast and wanted to get to the end. It was kind of a cheap thrills sort of book, but awesome for a summer holiday weekend (which is when I read it).

This book has a truly unique premise, sensitively treated. Hard to describe without spoilers, but this book does an excellent job exploring the complexity of loss and unresolved relationships.

Before reading this book, ask yourself: can I handle a book in which the author doesn't do a good job handling grief, sexual assault or psychological traumas? If the answer is no, save your money, save your time, save your space on your shelves. If the answer is yes, then ask if it matters to you that the characters are well-developed, if they seem like real people with real personalities. If that's important, again, don't bother.
I can't really explain the love for this book. The writing is poor, which sometimes I can forgive if a story is truly full of twists and turns. The narrator is beyond irritating, swinging from desperately overcome with loss to just as desperately overcome with lust (or even laughter).
And the author really needs to understand that 26 year old women in coastal towns of California don't wear 'thin knit wraps'. A minor detail, perhaps, but indicative of the way that she couldn't seem to figure out if her characters were 8 or 48.

I think this is a very good book, that is hard to put down. This is about Aimee who instead of getting married, buries her fiancee James on what was supposed to be their wedding day. But something keeps nagging Aimee. She can't let James go and decides to try to find out what really happened to James on the trip when he went missing and ended up death. The premises is good and both the writing and pacing are good. I like the characters and really felt for Aimee. How horrible it must have been to have a funeral instead of a wedding. When Aimee investigated the events around James' death, the plot takes some unexpected twists and turns. This book kept me up way past midnight. It was just too good to stop reading. I'll certainly read more by this author. The ending was very book. Can't wait to read book #2 of the series!

This is one cheesy soap-opera of a novel with a plain ridiculous plot. However, I feel a seed of something here, and I think the author's writing has the potential to mature, which kept me from a one-star review.

Kerry Lonsdale is an incredible storyteller. She manages to balance a myriad of emotions without any of them seeming forced, hone characters so realistic that I'd recognize them if they walked up to me on the street, paint a picture of lush settings and all without missing a beat on the unique and captivating plot. I was fortunate enough to get an advanced copy of this book and will for sure keep Lonsdale high on my list of must read authors. Brilliant storytelling.
