I'll own, I put off reading this for a while since I didn't think I would be keen on reading a story where D&E had to spend so much time apart. However this author is so good that I knew I should give it a go.

It was so so great. This author weaves such an incredibly rich tapestry not only for D&E but also for their lives and families. The author finds a simple and elegant way to interrupt the cannon and keep D from returning to find E after Linda's wedding. From here we get to see all the ways that their lives unfold and how they continue to try and reach out to each other across time and space until those reaches finally connect 25 years down the line.

The new characters are lovely and just as rich as our cannon characters and the cannon characters are deepened and evolved to show how these characters have grown.

Overall a wonderful read, one I'm sure I'll revisit.

This is definitely a unique plot among the many variations and retelling of Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. It’s a good book, don’t get me wrong, but the focus is definitely split between Elizabeth/Darcy and her niece/his nephew. Darcy and Elizabeth are older and as such their relationship develops much differently than it does with their younger, innocent selves in canon and other variations. If you want a traditional Lizzy and Darcy struggle culminating in a ‘happily ever after’, this isn’t for you. I did enjoy it, but it’s not my cup of tea. I just prefer a story centered on the original characters during the canon time period :) I’d do three stars if I was going off of just my personal preferences, but that wouldn’t give justice to the author for talent & originality. If you want a fresh take and are tired of the plots of most variations, this is definitely the book for you. You won’t be disappointed in the story’s development.
