I remember the poem books like this from when I was a child. I never read this one, but it was decent. Poetry really isn't my favorite form of literature, but I still enjoyed it.

I remember this being the first hardcover book I owned. It was well-loved! I memorized a poem for the school talent show in 2nd or 3rd grade.

Our family loves reading, but we rarely read poetry. We happened to crack open our copy of “Where the Sidewalk Ends” this month and we were pleasantly surprised by a collection of laugh-out-loud, clever poems that feel similar to the work of Roald Dahl. We now reading some poetry aloud at mealtimes, quiet times or in the evening because Shel Silverstein’s poetry got us started. “Where the Sidewalk Ends” was an unexpected peek into poetry, with the kids favorite poem being “Boa Constrictor.”

The part that amazes me so much about Silverstein's poems is how I could love them as a kid, and love them even more as an adult. Usually it doesn't quite work out that way, but there's something charming about these poems that makes me fall in love all over again.

I've heard a lot about this book (my daughter gave it 5 stars) so my expectations were high. There were a couple poems that I found very entertaining but overall they were good rather than great.
