Meh. Might have outgrown this series.

Freefall includes the first five comic book issues of Buffy: Season 9, plus a Spike extra that's rather adorable. What is there to say about Freefall? It's Buffy. Buffy rocks. End of story.

Okay, plus we get Dawn, Xander, Willow, Spike, a rather messed-up world after the major game-changer at the end of season 8, and a new big bad. Because I love Buffy, I will forgive the fact that she's shown living in San Francisco in an apartment complex with an outdoor pool and palm trees.

Love, love, love. Except for hating having to wait until December for volume 2 of season 9. Other than that? Nothing but love.

This is way more like the TV show that the eight season.
The eight was such a mess, I got lost a few times in all the big moments, too many ridiculously epic magical things so in the end, it was just too much.
This has that earthy feel to it, there's no magical giant colorful monster, gods or army attacks, just a good story in the Buffyverse comics, something that could've been shoot for TV.

I had a mixed relationship with Season 8, and Season 9 started hitting some of the notes I hated most-- in particular Angel and Giles. My family-centric self really hurts and hates over what they randomly did to Buffy and Giles' relationship and that Giles was RICH and let Buffy and Dawn SUFFER before the end of the series and that he left EVERYTHING to Faith galls me, and really soured me on the series right off. Add to that the way Xander and Dawn (Xander and Dawn, ew, sorry-- that's just how I feel) treat Buffy and I almost gave up.

Thank a Dark Horse sale, later in the year, and I catch back up. For now.

I liked that Spike and his bug-ship were still around to lend some grounding (ironically, and yet not, enough). I can't help but hope that this goes on, because I really felt by the end of Season 7 that they were going to be able to help one another grow up. I want to see it.

Season 9 is already so much better than season 8. They seem to really have learned from their mistakes with the first run of comics.

I'm happy Buffy's back to being normal-ish! And the sweet interactions b/w her and her people do give me the happy fuzzies.

I liked the plot with Syphoner but really hated how everyone treated Buffy especially Dawn and Xander. I’m happy they’re happy together but I hate how after everything they were acting like Buffy was just ruining their normal life.

I really enjoyed this one - great, witty dialogues and a great story in the tradition of the original series.

I'm not sure if I really like the art in Buffy comics, but of course I love the stories because I seem to love everything Whedon writes. If I had liked the art I would have given this four stars.
