First encounter with Steinbeck, and I’m intrigued and a bit nauseated. His characters are brilliantly fleshed out, but the ultimate end to their actions is a final tragic joke played on the unsuspecting by an uncaring world.

I read this for school, but it honestly ate DOWN. any book that makes me cry is a good book in my opinion, AND THIS MADE ME CRY. i didnt even realize i liked the characters that much until
Lennie died. IMAGINE HAVING TO KILL UR BSF?? i died.
but anyways i think this is a very well written novel and the evolution of George and Lennie’s relationship is really what makes it rated highly for me (I wrote a paper on it too so maybe that’s why I like it so much).

My main qualm was that I wanted more. Whilst George and Lennie were compelling with the little that was told of their story, I’m a sucker for detail. Please embellish upon this odd coupling, why they’re constantly on the run, how they’ve come upon the farm they continue to idealise for their future.
As I was being drawn in, 20 pages later it was done - just feels like wasted potential.

of mice and men by John Steinbeck
I actually really really liked this book and that's because it was a quite short book it was around 110 pages and I think that was really firting
|| immediately I picked up that one theme is solitude and loneliness and I thought found all the characters quite compelling and interesting. Lenny and George's relationship is compelling because in the beginning it is George who is protect the Lenny from the world, but at the end it is the opposite it is because Lennie trusts George so much he doesn't realise George is going to kill him. I think that shocking because I didn't think George had it in him to kill him to kill Lennie.  the theme of loneliness /solitude,  everybody in the book is lonely becomes alone.  George kills Lennie. Lennie killes his soft things (his pup) Candy's old dog gets pup down. Slim and Carson were already alome. Crooks was lonely because no one wanted to interact with him due to his skin color. Curley was lonely because his wife didn't care for him. Curley's wife is lonely because she's a woman. Also, the fact that we don't know her name emphasizes the fact that she doesn't have the chance to introduce her name and has become a possession of Curley's. that was quite sad because even though these people all around each and they live the same world and also close to each other they're all just alone like physically the places quite small like there's already two settings but everyone is alone or becomes alone. I think it was really sad because these people also close to each other but mentally they are so far apart. ||
