Part of its charm is how boring it is - and at times it is very charming! There are quite a few cute romantic moments or sentimental musings on the seasons which I loved. However, I feel bad for Amy having to deal with a piss-obsessed drunken sex pest. From my perspective as a woman, I struggled to connect with whatever it is Amy sees in James. I was surprised that they're still together today - for many of the comics it seems like neither one likes the other very much. I imagine (hope) that as these books go on you grow to love James and his 'quirks', and I might read further into the series once I finish some other books higher up in the stack.

For most of my upcoming comics, I credit all the recommendations from Youtube angel NerdBurger. Jeff Kochalka is her favorite artist and she even has a tattoo from one of his books. American Elf wasn't what I expected, but it was nice. He did a daily comic chronicling his life, specifically 1999. He does this up to 2012, I believe. Some comics were funny, some were basic, but they all had a fog of malaise over them. Kochalka's depression is evident and palpable to the reader. My favorite comics included Jeff praising his wife, both her beauty and her body. The flashes of nudity were surprising but nice, perhaps because I may be slightly voyeuristic. I liked his cute cat, the way his friend is portrayed as a dog, and his sweet wife the most. Who knows? It was an easy read but if I continue to read happy comics in between American Elf, I may be able to continue. It's nice but nothing groundbreaking. At least the comics I borrow are free!
