I truly loved this book. I will say I read this novel as a teen and I would say that I feel it’s more catered towards that age range; however, I do still think an adult could enjoy this novel. It had a sci-fi thriller concept that keeps you engaged throughout the entirety of the novel. It has elements of mild horror sprinkled into the idea of a human coming to the realization they are not what they thought they were.

It was... well it kept my attention, but it felt like the only reason I stayed up so late to finish it was because it was due back to the library soon. Questions were left unanswered, and the ending was rather depressing. Not saying depressing endings can't be effective because they totally can, but this one wasn't. Once again Brooks more or less just leaves his book unfinished. I think this is the last Brooks book I'm going to bother with.

this book was largely confusing and unsatisfying.
Firstly, the girl wasn't really kidnapped. It's more like she just went with him.
Secondly, they never explained what he was. I get that the point of the book wasn't technically what he was but whether or not he was a living being, but you can't spend an entire book asking what something is and then end it by saying 'i don't care.' .
he cared until the second to last page. I cared throughout.

More of my reviews at The Cozy Reading Corner

Being was absolutely captivating and I could scarcely put it down. The story starts out with Robert Smith going to the doctor for a routine examination: an endoscopy. But what they see there was anything but routine. I don't want to give the story away, but what they see causes a whole set of events to unfold. Robert ends up going to Eddi (who is a girl) because she makes fake IDs and he needs a new identity. Then once Eddie becomes involved with all of Robert's problems, they end up having to go off together to live in hiding. Then a whole bunch of other things happen; some of it awesome and some of it really sad. But overall this was a book full of intrigue, fighting, romance, a whole lot of awesomeness, and a lesson that teaches you what it really means to be human. I absolutely loved it and will definitely be reading more of Kevin Brooks' books in the future. :))

I really struggled to get into this book. The beginning read like a video game where the main character Robert Smith is in some sort of strange situation and the only thing he can do is beat people up and run away. But once I got into the book, I was totally hooked. I was on the train reading it on my way to work praying that the train would be delayed so I could finish the book!

This is a very odd novel. The main character is Robert Smith, a 16-year-old boy who has lived in foster homes all his life. He goes to the hospital for an endoscopy for a suspected stomach ulcer, but the doctors see something that doesn't make any sense. Robert hears the conversation of the doctors from his anesthetized state and struggles to react.
Once he escapes the hospital, Robert is not sure where to go. He tries to make sense of what the doctors saw, even doing investigations himself, but doesn't understand what he finds. As he runs from those who are now pursuing him, he ends up with Eddi, a beautiful criminal that he isn't sure he can trust.
Robert is a lost soul, unsure of his past or his future. He doesn't know where to go for help or who to trust. This book offers a look at self-discovery with a twist.

I don't know what to rate this! I read it in high school and just randomly remembered its existence at this moment and ran to goodreads to find it.

This book will forever go down in Sarah-History as The Book That Actually Made Me Vomit

I literally threw up while reading this book.

I think just for that, I'm going to give it 4 stars.
