Full of everything that makes far-future scifi awesome, and books enjoyable to read.

Slow at first.
The MC is not sympathetic, I didn't care about the supporting characters.
There's 3 story in one, and the city is not as predominant as the title would suggest. The second half of the book is a bit more interesting but I did not enjoy that book that much

An exciting ride between two different worlds. Not between planets, but instead between lifetimes. This novel focuses on Tanner Mirabel's vendetta against the man who killed a woman he cared for and his boss. Leaving his home world to cryogenically pursue the man, and after exposure to a virus designed to force a belief into his mind, he reaches the planet Yellowstone. It seems a cut-and-dry pursuit, yet there is more under the surface - both in the figurative and literal sense. Soon, Tanner cannot be sure who he is, who he was and who he may become.

Almost a 5 star, great world building, great characters, somewhat of a psychological thriller on another planet. Throughout the book I lamented the fact that the main character wasn't really acting the way his character was set up. The end made that clear and tied the whole thing together, just like the rug in The Big Lebowski. The only nit I had was that it was all fairly disconnected until the end, I struggled at times to keep all the threads together but what an awesome payoff.

At this point I am a serious Reynolds fan boy so take any recommendations I have about his books with a grain of salt.

amazing book. took me a while to get through it but not for lack of interest. i don't want to give anything away but if you like sci fi and lots of plot twists, I highly recommend.

This was my first dip into Alastair Reynold's Revelation Space universe, and boy was it fun. A post-human steampunk (yeah, he gets there) noir with Lovecraftian elements? Yes please.

SpoilerAnd in some sense, it answers the question "What would Vandal Savage do if he was more of an anti-hero?"
