Gorgeous prose but the story was waaaay too long and meandering. Only got through it on double speed - a shame because the landscape is enchanting.

There was a lot I enjoyed about this book. It’s very funny, in its way. I would highly recommend the audiobook as the author/narrator has an incredibly pleasant and expressive voice that makes a somewhat choppy story easier to follow.

Unfortunately, I was bored, and the story left me confused and didn't draw me in

I'm not even sure what to say about this book! It was a lot of fun, thought provoking, and made me want to reread it immediately to understand it better. This author is clever and creative and I'm looking forward to more of her work!

Others have suggested the sumptuous prose is easily to be lost in. I agree the choice of language feels luxurious. It fits the magical realism of the book and constant references to magic and powers.

I almost stopped listening to this audiobook. Despite the fact that the book is set over the course of one day, the sheer amount of callbacks and the number of main characters and then supplementary characters made it hard to follow. But the intrigue of the magical really was the thing that kept me going with it.

I borrowed this audiobook using Libby from my local library. Support your local library!
