POV of three characters - May (Mei), her daughter, Lily, and her grandson, Nick.  I feel we learn the most about May, at the end of the book, but I am not sure I understand her motivations, or Lily's decision.  I found Nick irritating.

ooof this one hit me hard for some reason. my love of this book feels a bit indescribable because i can’t exactly nail down why i liked it so much. it was emotionally captivating in a way that snuck up on me. i had no idea what it was about going in and ended up thoroughly enjoying the writing style and the generational storytelling. it was definitely an emotional read through the lives of this family line. the entire first half had an overarching sense of doom that i couldn’t pin down and the entire second half was a sad realization of that doom as i learned how shit had actually happened. it was very good and i need to sit with it for a while to fully understand the themes

i will say it did remind me a lot of EEAAO. the dynamic between Mei and Lily was so emotional, especially in those last few chapters. and the overall journey of their mother/daughter relationship ended up being my favorite part, due largely to the fact that every romantic couple i rooted for had a tragic ending :’(. i am very thankful for that last little paragraph of hope and healing and i would def recommend this book to anyone who likes to hurt but left hopeful
