This is one heck of a second chance rock star romance and I had a great time reading it!
The Rebellion is one of those books you can hardly put down and you find telling yourself "just one more chapter".

I fell instantly in love with Jaymes, Ace and Derrick. S.L. Scott makes it just so easy to get attached to those guys. I just finished the book and already miss them.

Reading about how two souls meant being together find their way back to each other was an emotional roller-coaster I wasn't really prepared for.

"I'm in heaven again. Her body mine. Her mind mine. Her soul mine to keep forever."

"Our love story was already set in motion. Our destiny was just waiting for us to meet."

"She's always been my muse, but now she's the melody that plays in my heart, the one that made it worthwhile to go back to the start."

The Rebellion is the fifth book in S.L. Scott's Hard to Resist series that centers around a group of sexy rockers that make up the band, The Resistance. This book is a standalone second-chance romance, so readers can read this one even if they haven't read the previous books in the series. With that being said though, I struggled to finish this book. There was a lot to get over here, and unfortunately the only thing that kept me reading was the fact that I have enjoyed books from S.L. Scott in the past.

I won't go into a ton of details on the story itself so as not to spoil anything. Derrick and Jaymes met at a young age and things quickly became more for them. But then everything changed and Derrick went on to become a famous rockstar while Jaymes was left behind to struggle and fight a life that was more than just about her.

A huge part of my issues here were the characters. I couldn't connect with them and I really didn't like them. There were some huge assumptions here and some things that just didn't make sense to me about how they acted. While the heroine was left behind and had so much she was struggling with, the hero was out sleeping with tons of groupies. The worst part of all of it is that what happened to the heroine could be traced back to the hero, and yet it was easily forgiven because Derrick didn't know. I just couldn't get past everything that they did and that had happened. It was just too much to overcome.

Not only were the characters a problem for me, but the story itself was. I just couldn't believe that this came from an author that I had loved so much in the past. With everything that Jaymes had been through and the stuff that she was forced to endure, and then there is this hero that has had his dreams come true and spent his time being a complete manwhore it was just too much for me to look past. I couldn't bring myself to like the characters or truly feel invested in their story and this one was disappointing. I have seen a lot of reviews from people that loved this story, but sadly this is one I would recommend skipping.

This book is a second chance romance between a sexy, yet sweet rock star and the high school sweetheart he left behind, it has sweet love, and heartbreak. This story is about Derrick Masters who has jetted off to Hollywood, The consequence of his actions was that the love of his life, Jamie, who was left behind to survive the dangerous neighborhood. While Derrick's star rose as the lead guitarist for The Resistance, he had no idea what his one true love was left to endure in his absence. This book was in short, awesome, the characters are well developed, and rich. The author makes you feel like you are in the story, not reading a book, and to me, that is what I look for. This story is told in alternating views.

I am a sucker for second chance romances. They make you truly believe that love is real and it can save you and outlast even the hardest times of your life.

After having a successful tour, Derrick decides the one thing he’s missing is back in his home town. He is determined to fix his heart and win her back. Jaymes was left behind in their hard home town. She now has a 5 year old son but is stronger than ever. I was happy to see how strong of a heroine she was. She didn’t give up, she kept surviving.

Jaymes and Derrick’s relationship was so much fun! Their chemistry was out of this world hot! My heart still feels full after finishing their story. I couldn’t get enough of the flashbacks to the beginning of their love story. It added so much detail and emotion that made it hard not to connect to their story right away.

I wish there was a little more detail in Derrick’s lifestyle in the 5 years he spent away from Jaymes. I was also a little annoyed at the reason he left Jaymes in the first place. I won’t spoil it for you, and I do understand he was 18 at the time, but it was still a little frustrating for me.

With that being said though, I really did enjoy this book and I can’t wait for more books from S.L. Scott.

Grateful to have received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

This series is one of my favorites, The Rebellion shows us the life of Derrick Masters, The Resistance leading guitarist. SL Scott shows us that his life hasn't been easy, he had left his home to accomplish his dreams, but becoming a rock star is harder than he thought. Jaymes Grenier is the girl he left behind all those years ago. He wants her back, but will his lifestyle and their past becoming between them be an obstacle to their reunion? Derrick is certainly going to face things he never thought possible and find things that will ultimately change his life forever. It was an amazing storyline, the writing, as always, perfect. The hot rockstars in the series certainly have an appearance and I love to keep with their lives as the series progresses.

okay plot but Jaymes really annoyed me. she was constantly saying i can't be seen with him i cant do xyz because reggie will take Ace away from me etc etc but then she just decides eh oh well I'll just see him and then it's like all the back and forth was pointless and drew out the entire story.
