This was a fun YA novel, and I do recommend it. But it was only the start of something, and I resent that it isn’t as standalone as it should be. 3.5 stars. The world building began, the rules of sea trade established, and the development of our gem-sage’s character has begun. But that’s just it, this is clearly written as a part 1 and I find that annoying, especially when it ends on a blatant cliff-hanger.

i actually enjoyed this book even if i read it to take it off my shelf lol. but it was really fast paced and interesting—super YA—but it was a cool story.
