A guest on a popular live radio program is poisoned and drops dead during the soda sponsor’s key promotional spot, a mid show segment when guests and hosts pop the tops on the advertised product and imbibe on air. This entry in the Nero Wolfe series opens a week following the dramatic death with Nero and Archie devising how to get in on the investigation to earn a badly needed healthy fee. A pleasurable plot which, as usual in Stout’s Nero Wolfe stories, is secondary to our protagonist’s verbal jousting and interactions.
This book begins what is known as the Zeck trilogy featuring a Moriarty-like nemesis.

Classic Nero Wolfe. And I just can't get enough of Archie Goodwin.

Solid whodunnit with some charming Archie/Wolfe moments. Wolfe interviewing a fangirl teenager was just too utterly!

A guest on a radio talk show drops dead after taking a sip from a sponsor's beverage. For fans of the series, mostly notable as the first appearance of Arnold Zeck, master criminal.

A guest on a radio talk show collapses (cyanide) when he drinks the sponsor's juice drink. Nero Wolfe, short of cash as per usual, sends Archie Goodwin to the studio hoping he will be hired to solve the crime. He is, of course, and as always he uses the police to best advantage (to do his leg work) but solves the crime on his own. In The final scene, I'm not giving anything away here, the killer self-incriminates through Wolfe's adroit questioning.

When the author of a horse race tipsheet drops dead during a live radio broadcast (and what's worse, he was poisoned with the sponsor's product!), Nero Wolfe steps in to investigate the death. Between his formidable brain and his sidekick Archie's footwork, few mysteries stymie Wolfe for long, but he may have met his match in this odd case...

I've had the Nero Wolfe mysteries recommended highly to me, but overall I wasn't completely enthralled with this particular mystery. I did like Wolfe and Archie, however, so I'll probably check out other titles in the series.
