I started too many books at a time xD. The spring season got to me, but I don’t have time to start this yet. I shall return, hopefully later in June.

I will say that the work is pleasant to read—lyrical can also grounded in  humanity’s follies.

Mesmerising. I haven't ever read a book which describes magic remotely as magical, wonderful, and paradoxically something that makes you want to run toward it and away from it at the same time. I just found the ultra-lyrical prose took me a while to wade through - I feel like it might be a book that is intended to be read slowly or read aloud.

I found it an interesting reading experience for its place in literary history, the link between old folk tales and modern fantasy literature, rather than an enjoyable read.
It reads like a tidied up, poetically told, Celtic fairy tale - these can have a rather disjointed feel, like a dream, while this has a more stable narrative structure.

⭐️: 3.5 / 5

“The hall that was built of moonlight, dreams, music and mirage."

➡️ linear timeline
👥 POV: multiple POV
🐎 Pace: medium

💭 This story is quoted as having influenced Tolkien’s writing.

What I liked:
- Poetic descriptions
- Reads like a fairytale
- Barrier of twilight
- Witches
- Life after happily ever after wedding
- Rune magic

What I wasn’t a fan of
- Most of the characters, I just didn’t find myself engaged
- The ending left me a bit confused, not to mention it was anti-climactic

I overall liked this story. It’s a quick book to breeze through and it’s very much a Tolkien-esque story rife full of descriptions. The biggest thing that I found I unlike Tolkien that I didn’t reminisce with were the characters.

⚠️ violence, hunting animals
