An absolutely remarkable book that feels all the more important for the absurdity of it. Because the plot is a bit absurd giant otherworldly statues land across the world and one unremarkable girl is at the centre of it does sound like a very realistic plot. Yet the characters are so human and so deeply reflective of truths about our society, the internet, and fame that it feels real.
A realness that is help by the wonderfully conversational style of the narrator that pulls the reader firmly and irrevocably into the world where the Carls are a thing that happened as an obvious fact of life. Blending the lines between reality and fiction artfully!
While I didn’t also like April I understood April and was interested in her story. She was far from perfect but in a deeply human and understandable way not a frustrating way.
This book had been on my too read list for ages and I’m so glad I gave it a try. It was totally worth it. A book that will stick with me and how I think about fame and didactic rhetoric on the internet for a long time to come

I fell in love with this book almost instantly.. I don’t know if that’s because of breaking the fourth wall, or the sense of humor.. it discussed the social media issues in a very relatable way.
I absolutely loved it.

this was an absolutely remarkable thing, but it was also very Youtube™; and even though i understand why and the importance of that, it became tiring very quickly and made it somewhat harder for me to suspend my disbelief.

Riktigt bra!

Just... really well done. Straightforward, not perfect, but entertaining and goes quick.

Kind of a meh read. I feel like Hank was just trying to do too much. Like it's a YA read but also criticism on media but also brings up politics and polarisation but like
it's just not GREAT at all of them. It's kind of meh at everything. (jack of all trades but master of none...)
