I love midwifery books!

In another lifetime I would have been a midwife, so enthralled I am with pregnancy and labour. This book was a good insight into the life of a midwife, and although not the best writing, it was still a good read.

Using her own experiences as a midwife for many years the author has written a book which shows the true value of midwives.
The book is fictional, but each story contained within is based on the authors real life experiences.

The stories shared range from happy to sad, the extreme to the ridiculous, but all have a common theme. They show how important midwives are in helping to bring babies into the world, supporting the parents and sometimes extended family also.

As with real life not all of the stories have a happy ending. A few stories almost made me cry as I knew that somewhere out there is the person whose story I was reading. These stories in particular are heartbreaking to read but with the good unfortunately has to come the bad. It wouldn't be the book it is without sharing some lows along with the highs.

The author adds in a lot of funny moments within the stories, as well as a few interludes talking about her own personal memories of midwifery.

This book will appeal to anyone who has had children, those planning on having them, and anyone who is interested at all in the amazing thing which is childbirth. But more than that, this book is a great insight into the wide and varied work of midwives.
