It had Jesus as a character and I don't like to read books like that

Disclaimer: Christian Fiction

Daughter of Cana is the first books of Angela Hunts Jerusalem Road series. It follows Thomas and his Twin sister Tasmin as he decides to follow Jesus and his deciples and she stays to tend to their father.  This story start with the first miracle of water into wine and ends with the resurrection.  We are also introduced to Jesus’s brothers and sister who I believe are some of the main characters in the rest of this series.

His younger brother Jude is the sibling focused on the most in this book.    In this we see what the author thought Jude would have felt with Jesus as a brother.  She did an excellent job. She was very respectful of the source material and I felt added more depth into characters that are mentioned in the Bible but not much is known of.  A well written and enjoyable start to this series.

This is great for those who enjoy biblical fiction.

An enjoyable read, but…

This was a very enjoyable read, the characters were relatable and lovable and the storyline moved at a good pace. The author did a wonderful job of creating and illustrating the world that Jesus lived in and elaborating on the stories of the lesser known people in the Bible.

However, while I enjoyed reading it, I don’t think I would choose to read any more by this author. While it can be fun to expand on the well known stories from the Bible, making them easier to read, it can sometimes too easily take the place of the real thing, and this story was close to the truth without being fully accurate, making it hard to distinguish fact from fiction.

This was such a great book! I really loved how the author showed why ppl would be skeptical of Jesus in his day.

The one issue that bothered me was the subtle misogyny that was portrayed in even one of the main characters (Jude). I understand that was probably normal in that time period but I also feel authors have a responsiblity to somehow show that that's wrong.
