4.25 stars. For a 99 cent book, the quality was good. I read it in one sitting, and enjoyed it. Things kept me guessing, and I was entertained. This book was funny, exciting, and left enough open at the end for me to want to read the next one. I liked the characters for the most part, and while I understood some of their decisions not to tell her anything so that she could have a blank slate thing going on, I was frustrated at their evasiveness. I also didn't appreciate Audrey's jealousy of Kaitlin. Or rather, I could handle that, but then I felt like she did a bit of a 180 in trying to start over. I wasn't entirely clear on her motives for that. Nevertheless, I look forward to the next one and learning more about the world, her flaming sword, Logan (and his mysterious past and why he's taken) and Audrey's specialness: how and why? Also, why is Abaddon so obsessed with her? What can she do to break his curse? Overall, I thought that this was an enjoyable read and will be waiting until June 13th with baited breath.

It really pulled me in and I didn’t want to stop reading. I needed to know what happened next. I thought the ultimate battle was kind of.. lame?.. I know it would be an adrenaline rush in real life but I wasn’t into it. I also didn’t like the chapter with god. It made the book less interesting to me. Romona is her Grandma which is both weird and cool. Logan is such an interesting character bc his actions don’t always make sense. I’m excited to see what happens between him and her. Hugo is a cool twist and I’m excited to learn more about him.

*Disclaimer* My dad runs a bookstore and gets all kind of free copies of books when he goes to conferences, I'm 90% certain I grabbed this one from his stash of books from such events. Because I'm a book whore and if you're family, and I think it looks interesting I'm going to take it to read.

Overall I think this is a really well done Christian YA book. Personally, I loved it. Julie Hall manages to weave a compelling story with a Christian worldview with out it being cheesy or vaguely allegorical as the case often is. On a more objective approach, for those strongly opposed to the Christian world view, probably not going to be your cup of tea because of the afterlife/God/Salvation themes.

I'm excited to read the rest to see where the story goes. I personally loved that Hall doesn't try to play down some of the mirkier aspects of what heaven will be like. She doesn't write heaven as a completely ethereal place of spirit only, nor does she write it as if it is merely a continuation of the earthly life. She finds a balance that I find refreshing. All in all, I think this book is a great example of how untrite YA books that have strong Christian themes can be written and work.

Coming into your own

To me this is a coming into your own story. Audrey had to learn who she truly was, what her faith and who she wants to become throughout the book. Losing her memories for most of it really added to the story. I loved the slow burn romance and little things that all came together in the end. I also enjoyed the different view of what life after death could be like.
My only problem was the faith. Some people may be turned off by the whole faith interwoven. A lot if the book bases on your belief.

Overall I felt like this book was very exasperating. In the end, it seems that it was just intended as a big set up for another book, with possibly a longer story, with not a lot of resolution on much of anything, and some things “resolved” in a very unsatisfying way. As a result, it just felt very slow, often disjointed. Maybe in conjunction with the next book it will feel like a better story, but on its own it feels very incomplete.

There were also some plot holes with how things worked in the world of the afterlife that I found frustrating. Mostly because I think in an attempt at mystery, too many things were left either unexplained or barely explained. Some basic stuff that wouldn’t have impacted how the story progressed would’ve been helpful I think. A better explanation of memories versus knowledge. Even just the basic way of “life” in the afterlife was largely unexplained until she discovered it by accident or by making a mistake that someone had to correct her about. There kept being mention of some orientation that she missed, but at no time did anyone seem to want to provide the information she would’ve receive at this orientation to help things along. Again, just a lot of loose ends and unfinished ideas.

I’ll probably read the next book, mostly because I don’t like a story that is left hanging open this much, and I’m hoping that things will move along more productively in the next book. The audio performance was good, worked well the the character and didn’t retract anything from the story.

I received this audiobook free in exchange for my honest review.

Overall I really enjoyed this book! It started off a bit slow for me, but once the mysteries started to unravel I couldn’t put it down. I loved the chemistry between the two main characters and both loved and hated how it ended.

*This is an audiobook review*
A fascinating story of life after death. With no memory Aubrey is thrust into the afterlife where her “job” is chosen for her and it seems to her it’s a big mistake.
While the plot seems interesting enough I felt I was missing the point of the story. This didn’t deter me away from continuing the audio and will even keep on with the trilogy as I am curious enough to see where this may lead.
This is definitely the typical YA novel, young love, internal torment with an unknown (so far) villain.

I listened to this book at the perfect time, I think! With Good Omen's coming out on Amazon Prime, I was vibing for something to listen to while I was cleaning and also working!

I enjoyed listening to this, I wasn't sure what to expect outside of what the blurb said and I liked how as Audrey, our leading lady, discovers things so do we. We don't really know much about her and SHE doesn't know about herself either.

There are several complex characters in the story, by which I mean they have depth and aren't shallow or simply filler characters. Each has a purpose in the plot, which was a pretty interesting one.

My favorite is dark and stormy Logan, who is the love interest to Audrey and I won't say anything more than that it's a slooooow burn!

So so so good!!!
Audrey's adventure had me at the edge of my seat. It's so well written and really transports you along with the characters and their demon hunts! I absolutely loved it!
