Beginning in the village of Gull, after her younger sister: Azalea is stolen by Phaeries, Poison goes on a quest to rescue her.

very interesting concept introduced in this book. reminds me of another book (can't remember right now). has some pretty scary graphic descriptions, like in Alaizabel Cray, but is more fantasy, so i could handle the terror better. i gotta read his others, too.
great narration.

Although the start seemed slow to me and a lot of big plot points were quite predictable, the way I came to love the characters and the tense and vivid scenes kept me interested.

I really liked the first half of the book in which I got to know Poison and her journey started. The Scarecrow, Lamprey, the Bone Witch and Asinastra are wonderfully scary and imaginative creatures and I enjoyed listening to Poison's adventures involving them.
The last part of the book didn't get me as much though. The whole court-thing and how everything is just a story written by someone seemed kind of lame and not fitting even though it made more sense to me in the end than when it suddenly came up for the first time.
All in all a great fantasy book with a quest, a great heroine, her faithful companions, creepy villains and some not too hard to guess but enjoyable twists near the end.

It took me a little bit to get into this book but I ended up really liking it. It's not what I would usual go for and I'm glad that I gave it a try. The first chapters were kind of slow to me but once it picked up I couldn't put the book down.

AFTER FIVE YEARS OF SEARCHING FOR THIS BOOK: I STILL HAVEN'T FOUND IT IN MY COUNTRY.
I LOVE IT AND I WANT TO HAVE.

Damn frustrations. I keep searching.
It's been a long time ago but I can remember that the events were not expected.
I loved Poison her character and the way she behaved and just the whole story.
I hope I can read it again and find someday my own book.

Update 8/10
The real review

So it must have been six or seven years ago that I read this book. I always wanted to have it and a few months ago I finally found it. So I immediately bought it. No question if I had money or not (thank god I have)This is one of the books that I never forgot and always searched for in the bookshops.

Poison is a girl that inspires me. I would love to go away from the place I live and I travel a lot to everywhere I can go. Especially London which is by far my favourite city. I just don't feel like home here. I'm only not that courageous as her. Not as tough. I like how she is tough and all but really happy with Fleet, Bram, Peppercorn and Andersen. It's really cute in some kind of way that she is even able to give up Azalea where she searched for, to stick with her friends. (I hated it that Bram went away).

I read something from Wooding that he hoped that we got the way of his writing. I didn't read what it was so I hope I got it. I just like the way that during the end of the story we figure out that Poison is just a story character but a very important story character and I like it that it looks like that not Wooding is the writer but Poison herself. Being the Hierophant. I really enjoyed that. Such a lovely way of writing.
Not only the plot but also the little details. Not to much just good enough. I adore it. I'm so glad I finally got this book.

It's something else than all the sweet good Fairy Tale stuff. It's not Disney no it's much darker. If you read closely maybe you can see some things from other fairy tales like Hansel and Gretel.
I just can't get enough of it!

I read this a few years ago (picked it up because of its cover) and loved it! If you like original books with a few familiar components, read this title.

The story is unpredictable, odd, sometimes spooky, and very well written.
