Feminist, fairytale retelling with sapphic representation and chosen family? Could not ask for more.

"Only their choices would determine who they were in the end."

I'm not much of a fantasy reader, so there are elements of this book that I didn't love just due to personal preference, but on the whole I really enjoyed it. I found it to be such an interesting reimagining of the Snow White story and loved its explorations of feminist themes and of Lynet and Mina's relationship (and also loved its explicit nods to the fairytale and to the reclaiming of both Lynet and Mina's characters and stories). The writing is also brilliantly vivid and I felt truly immersed in the world. I enjoyed the romantic subplot a lot as well! Just a really solid read overall :)

Slightly repetitive, overexplained, and the word choices weren't always the best. The story seemed to drag on when it really had no need to.

However, I did like the focus on the stepmother - stepdaughter relationship, and how the story revolved mostly around them and their ~magically created~ hearts. I enjoyed both POVs, especially Mina's leading up to her becoming Queen.

Not as gripping as the first book (which i LOVED!!), unfortunately. Maybe I'll go back to it at a different time!

I really enjoyed this book. It was a drier read so it took me two weeks to get through it but the imagery and character arcs were worth it. I thought the lessons and growth were really inspiring but also exciting and intriguing packaged up in a snow white retelling. I appr ciated that romance was not at the forefront of the story.

I liked this book a lot and it was a really interesting and different spin on the classic Snow White fairytale. I loved how the title came into play and that both of the perspectives were, in some way, made of Snow and Glass. I enjoyed getting to see both Mina and Lynet’s perspectives, especially how we started with Mina 18 years prior so we could see her back when she lived in the sun and before/as she learned that her heart was made of glass, it made it all the more heartbreaking when she thought that she was incapable of love and incapable of being love, esp when mirrored with Lynet’s chapters where we can see how much Lynet cares for and admires Mina, and how it affected Mina when Lynet learned that she (Lynet) was made from snow and blood to give her life. I also really loved the sweet sapphic relationship between Lynet and Nadia, I loved that Nadia hadn’t rlly set out with the intention to befriend and fall for Lynet as she’d had ulterior motives in getting to know her, but threw that into the wind when she got to know her. I feel like there was a slightly pointless plot line where Lynet ran away to the South and encountered the Magician and then returning again, but alas, what can you do, IG it was important for Lynet’s understanding of what was happening and the decisions she made, but it felt so redundant. ALSO, i feel like the real antagonists of this story were both Lynet and Mina’s fathers because, both of them, for entirely different reasons, were absolutely despicable.

Delightful!  One of the best Snow White retellings I've read.  Starts with an interesting premise and carries through without losing sight of the elements and emotional undercurrents of the original fairytale.  I particularly enjoyed the way it came together in the end.  Some of the threads felt like they could have used a little tightening up, but they weren't terrible, just a little bit flat in comparison to the inspired parts of the others.
