While this book was definitely not written for me, I found it to be a really interesting and worthwhile read. As a book lover, I enjoy hearing about how others got into reading and what they love about it. This anthology provides a look into the lives of bookish Black women of all ages from different backgrounds. If anyone ever questions the importance of representation in books and the arts in general (i.e. seeing people who look like you or share a similar life as you), these stories will show you in first-hand accounts how powerful it is to see yourself reflected in the world around you and the damage of not experiencing that, especially to young people. These stories are beautiful and heart-warming but also very real and emotional. I highly recommend this book to any and all. It is also full of recommendations for books written by Black women in every genre.

I really enjoyed this book of essays and read this completely over 2 days. Some of the essays gave me chills, but I found all of them enjoyable and useful. It was especially fun to see essays by people whose writing I have loved, and some who had essays included before their breakout hits. Great for book lovers and those interested in the black reading and writing experience.

A really lovely anthology from powerhouse Black women writers, discussing their literary loves and the impact of representation in stories on their lives. I loved sitting with this book.

If you're like me and want to know what writers read, and how they're influenced by other writers, you'll enjoy this book. It has essays by an amazing list of writers, including some favorites of mine, with a theme of seeing themselves reflected in the writing of others. The fact that the contributors are from a variety of generations and backgrounds makes it all the more interesting.

4.5 stars. Great collection of essays by various writers about black females finding representation in literature. This was great and there are a lot of recommendations of books by black female writers as well.

My fuzzy brain caused by certain conditions in my life right now will not allow me to focus on an anthology, and it's due back at the library.
