I love how books / book pages are woven within the illustrations throughout the entire story, further representing the importance of books in her life!

Reading about Sonia Sotomayor is always so inspiring, but reading her story told to me with her voice just brought tears to my eyes. Reading about how books and education lead to her position as a Supreme Court Justice shows the power in words. And she writes beautifully! The language she uses is beautiful as well: “The library was my harbor, and books were little boats that helped me escape sadness at home.” & “Books were teachers, helping me sort out right from wrong.” LOVE!

What a charming book! I read her autobiography before and it is a nice condensed version for kids. The illustrations were wonderful too.

A nice overview of Sotomayor’s life and her love of reading.

There are lots of photographs on the inside cover which are nice.

I enjoyed reading this one with my daughter. I need to read Sotomayor’s autobiography (it’s on my bookshelf).

The poetry of this book, it's homage to books, and the inspirational figure at it's center mad eme want to give it 5 stars. The thing holding me back is that I don't know who the audience is supposed to be. The storyline is a bit simplistic for older grades, but the prose is too wordy for most younger grade students.

Still, I would gladly add this to library shelves, because it will speak powerfully to at some children.

I am a huge Sotomayor fan. Her picture books, like her life, are filled with lessons about life as an American, a woman, AND a Latina. Her autobiographical text in this book gives us a general overview of what her life has been like and how books and the written word in general have laid the foundation for who she is and what she fights for today.

Thanks to the publisher for the review copy. All opinions are my own.

Supreme Court Associate Justice Sonia Sotomayor's new picture book TURNING PAGES will be out in the world soon! It's such a unique autobiography because it's told through a love of books. This one will also be published en espanol as PASANDO PÁGINAS.
