Fun, sprawling story that explores social class and race in contemporary, post-Colonial England. At times, it feels more like a character study, or an opportunity to explore philosophy and random ideas, but if you don't necessarily need a strong plot to keep you interested, this is an entertaining read that wrestles with complex topics.

I read this a year ago (only just got the app) and I have to say this remains my favourite book of all time. Perfect setting of time and place with a protagonist whose experiences keep me forever enthralled. I cannot sing enough praise for this book. Please please please read it as I don’t think enough people have read this book.
