Dije que Murakami, merecía un descanso... pero no pude contenerme a leer sus cuentos. Están muy bien... con ese aire melodramático y mágico que envuelve sus novelas.

A solid introduction to the eclectic talents of Murakami. Every story would leave you wanting for more.
I would not say that I enjoyed all 24 of them.. But this thrilling, funny, sad, scary all at once stories left me in sheer need to what happened afterwards. Although they are short stories you will find yourself wondering and overthinking about what gave idea to such storieS.. After every story I had to take small break to absorb it and ready myself for next one.
But truthfully speaking his writing style cannot be judged and given enough credits by short works. His novels make more moving and lasting impact on reader.

Murakami’s second full-length collection of short stories. In general, I think I liked this one even more than [b:The Elephant Vanishes|9555|The Elephant Vanishes Stories|Haruki Murakami|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1166028135s/9555.jpg|693417]. The first few stories were not my favorites (it felt like a lot of the slighter ones were toward the beginning of the collection), but once the meatier ones came along—the ones that I felt I could grasp the significance of, the ones that were more than just random, surreal slices of life—I was enthralled. “Tony Takitani” was perhaps my favorite—it broke my heart.

It was also interesting to see how certain short stories of Murakami’s wouldn’t leave him alone: two of the tales in this collection and one in Vanishes were later incorporated into three of his novels. I always enjoy small peeks into the writing process like that.

My opinions are a little divided with this book. I think it was the first collection of short stories I read. Most of them were pretty enjoyable and I loved a few of them due to the reflection they allowed without letting that feeling of "okay, what the fuck just happened". Overall, it's a 3-star ranting.

some of these stories are really good and at least two are clear foundations for his other books (sputnik sweetheart and norwegian wood). however in some of the other stories he is literally just saying shit
