Pretty boring, kept expecting it to pick up. Never does except for a few scenes. Hopefully the third brings the previous two books together and it all pays off.

Before They are Hanged by Joe Abercrombie
4.5⭐
I was iffy after the #1 in the First Law trilogy, giving The Blade Itself a 3.75⭐. But the second book is markedly better. We have redeemable characters action, and love. There is true hope here that was pretty seriously lacking from the previous book.
Series is Grimdark, think ASOIAF but the ones you root for don't ALWAYS die and a much smaller cast of characters.
No spoilers since this is a second of a trilogy but I would recommend it!
