Couldn't even finish it. I made it halfway. It is written very poorly.

This is a fast, exciting thriller that oddly enough seems like it could happen to someone you actually know. The protagonist is a magazine writer, like many he aspired to Woodward and Bernstein heights, and the economy has led his bloated magazine to online-only status. When his girlfriend leaves him he moves back into his family home, left untended for years after his father's stroke. Secrets come pouring out of the house and re-awaken his long-held professional interests, while providing new information about his father. How will it end? The mystery is good and the book is solid. The characters are winning and believable. Boston is always good for a story with lots of secrets and this one is filled with them.

Another amazing "every man" thriller from Joe Finder! What would a normal guy do after making an amazing discovery hidden in his long abandoned family home? Well, if the guy is a bit of a screw up in the first place, odds are he's going to get himself into some trouble before he sorts out what's going on. Then he'll have to get his act together and try to sort things out. But can he do it before he's in too deep? Probably not. That's not how life works. At least not the lives of people worth reading about. Thankfully, Mr. Finder constantly delivers novels that are as plausible as they are entertaining. Each one an energetic adventure and frenetic thrill ride. The Fixer is no exception. This is another compelling book that is nearly impossible to put down. I found myself reading long after I should have gone to bed. The ultimate compliment, in my experience.

I can see why people who read books that show up on the NYT best seller list like this. Good story, mediocre prose. If you like books that I don't like, you'll probably give this five stars. Still, a solid choice for readers with good taste who want a break and a no effort beach book with solid, but not amazing writing.

Completely different from what I usually read, but very captivating and suspenseful.

This was a fun thriller. I like the concept of the main character being an investigative journalist. It makes unraveling the story with him seem more real, somehow.

Rather original plot, and decently written. I missed the "must know what will happen next" feeling though.

Fans of Harlan Coben and Linwood Barclay will dig this Boston tale of grift, journalism, selfishness and the mob. Twisty turny and quick pace!

I'll always like Joseph Finder, but this isn't his best work. Starts good, the rest is your usual fodder.
