Quick read. Pretty fun. Still love the nerdy pop references. But was MG as whiny and, frankly, annoying in the first book? (I'll admit it, my avidity for MG completely cooled in this one. In the course of a few chapters she professed a dislike of horses and a distrust of batman. She's not my kind of nerd girl...) Seems like she was all over the place with her relationship drama. The two reveals were...polar opposites. One felt random and so out of left field that I wondered if I missed a chapter or two and the other was a real "Well, duh!" moment. A likable cast of zany characters and enough comic book nerdiness to keep me entertained, but a little too much going on to keep a focus plot running. Definitely worth a read if you enjoyed The Frame Up.

Good, but...

I like the storyline and it is a good sequel. However, I find the cliches and references take away from the story. It works for the dialog from some of the characters, but not for the narrative between the dialog. Maybe it's just me.

The follow-up to Molin's first novel starts soon after the end of The Frame-up. MG annoyed me in the first book, and she annoyed me in this one too. I had hoped she wouldn't, but she did. Though she was a tad better, in that she did actually ask for help at times and keep Matteo in the loop (mostly). What I really enjoyed, though, was the side characters. We learn more about Lawrence (hooray!) and I am so glad he stepped up more in this book. He was my favorite from the last book and it is clear he is in the center of the whole mystery.

And the Golden Arrow reveal at the end was anti-climatic for me, as I had pegged it from book one, but I'm glad the author didn't drag it out over many more books. Instead, it creates a new plot element to explore in the next book.

I'll be picking up book 3. I'm incredibly invested in the plot, even if I'm not in the main character.

This book is the Queen!

This 2nd book was just as great as the first one! This isn’t my usual type of book I read, but it’s so well written with a great story and great characters and even great side characters. I can’t wait for the next book!
