4,5/5. Beautiful book! Marvelous artwork, magical story, even have some vocabulary building in the color department. I'm not really sure about the ending, I like it but at the same time, not so much, I would be curious to see how kids would interpret it. It also have, almost forgot, a way to introduce a dialogue about grief. Very well done. I love it.

I absolutely adored this story in a different type of fantasy picture books for children. A lot of picture book fantasies don't grip me the same way that middle grade and YA fantasies grab me, but Don't Drink the Pink is so sweet, so nostalgic, and has such a bittersweet story behind the whimsical illustrations throughout the story.
This book is about the evolution of the main character's relationship with her aging grandfather through the years. Each birthday, her grandfather brings her an assortment of fun potions that do everything from making her a mermaid to making her fly to shrinking her down to tiny. The book also contains some educational concepts such as numbers, colors and the reality of aging.
I definitely recommend this to librarians and teachers for a sweet read aloud from Kindergarten through 2nd grade. There are many lessons that this one can tie into including basic concepts such as colors and numbers as well as some other concepts such as family, fantasy story elements, and characters. I gave this sweet book a 5 out of 5 stars.

A sweet story about a girl and her grandfather, who gives her a special potion each year allowing her to have some special experiences. As an adult, the book was a little predictable, but I did love the ending. Very heartwarming tale.
