I'm reading the Annihilation comics in anticipation of the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie to get some context for the various characters. I certainly enjoyed some of these stories more than others. The Hearalds are interesting but a little too abstract to be meaningful. All in all this is solid 3 star summer fluff... which is exactly how I hope the movie will turn out.

This is a huge event. It laid the ground for so much more and is pretty fun on its own.

I'd suggest this for anyone interested in Marvel Cosmic if they haven't already read it.

Highlights for me were Ronan, Super Skrull, Thanos, and Peter Quill.

My only problem is that it's sometimes like a summary rather than a story and sometimes it feels like its holding back to get to the next thing.

Interesting read.

I quite liked this event book. I’m not super familiar with Marvel’s space universe outside the X-men adjacent material like the Shi’ar but I found it to be fairly enjoyable with its twists, turns and betrayals while trying to ensure this all doesn’t spill over further in space than it has to. If there’s any major drawback to this major event comic from Marvel it’s that the prologue build up miniseries and the material included as aftermath is more compelling than the main event storyline that can come across as very busy with only a handful really getting to shine. Honestly though, I’m in to get the Annihilation Conquest Omnibus being reprinted a bit later in 2021.
