I love this book. I read this book on 2010 and until now its still my favorite. This books is telling us a story how contrast it is American culture and Japanese culture. American is much more brass and outspoken. Japanese is much more secluded and honoring seniority. I love how the author narrates the story and focusing on the culture contrast.

MASTERPIECE.
Of Micheal Crichton, I know very little except that he is the author of ‘The Jurassic Park’ which of course I have read and marveled at.
So when I picked up this book, I did it purely out of respect for the Jurassic Park. I had no idea what to expect.
And the genre is a little outside my comfort zone. Business relationships between America and Japan and the effect they can have on mundane life seemed like it would be a little tedious to understand for me.
And then I started reading.
At the heart of it, this book is a brilliantly crafted murder mystery which has plenty of surprises in store and just when you think it’s over, it’s not. Set against the background of the impending economic dominance of Japan over the world, it makes for a compelling read.
So after following Lieutenant Peter Smith, the student, and Captain John Connor, the teacher, on a breathtaking journey from the discovery of the murder to the identification of the murderer, I can say with some certainty that I will never think of Micheal Crichton as just “the-Jurassic-Park” guy anymore. 🤩

A little preachy at times, but otherwise an excellent murder mystery. Very hard to put down.

A definitely well written thriller that is for sure provocative. I wonder how true are the facts mention in this book about the Japanese and Americans. Though what Ishiguro decides to do in the end is pretty much a norm for japanese people in that situation, i still do wish a better ending for his character. Something a lil more unexpected maybe.

Book challenge #9 a book published the year i was born

Saw some comments that called this book racist, but honestly I think this novel has a truth to it that some people find offensive. If you don’t want to hear negativity about America and Japan, then don’t read it. There are positives and negatives to every culture and country.
This story was exciting, fast paced, and always changing. I could have never guessed the ending (classic Crichton). I had put it off because of other comments, but I wish I had read it sooner.
