Wow!

It was so thrilling and fun! [a:Amy Plum|3353516|Amy Plum|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1302475830p2/3353516.jpg] really gives this story her all, in my opinion. The characters are interesting and each has their own personality well-defined. I must admit I was fond of two of them in particular: Cata and Fergus.

There's a lot of chase by monsters worthy of nightmares (and I can tell you a lot about those, believe me) and it's creepy. Just like I wanted it to be. The story is surprisingly told from multiple point of views, including Jaime, who's a witness to the experiment gone wrong. I think this brings a lot of depth to the story.

It's intriguing, really. You never quite know what to expect and it's satisfying in a twisted kind of way. The writing flows well and changes slightly from character to the next.

Besides the horrors written in these pages, the best parts are the plot twists. I, for one, always see them coming from miles ahead... This time, I knew something was off, but I couldn't figure them out! What a joy! Finally, I was surprised in a book. It happens so rarely so let me pull out the champagne please *pulls out a bottle and pours a glass for me and you - unless you're underage, then it's just grape juice, sorry not sorry*.

If you love angsty (all these teenagers have huge issues), dramatic, thrilling, and creepy stories, read [b:Dreamfall|31371729|Dreamfall (Dreamfall #1)|Amy Plum|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1476897565s/31371729.jpg|46757540] by [a:Amy Plum|3353516|Amy Plum|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1302475830p2/3353516.jpg]!

Now I'll just sit here and wait for the second volume of her duology, [b:Neverwake|35180938|Neverwake (Dreamfall #2)|Amy Plum|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/book/50x75-a91bf249278a81aabab721ef782c4a74.png|46757612]. It'll be my perfect birthday gift from myself to myself (yes, I do that! Plus, it's coming out in May... guess when my birthday is? YES!)

But seriously, read it. There were no boring parts and I kept wanting to know more about the characters, the story, the horrors, and everything else!

In one word? Amazing.

Although more horror than the expected fantasy/supernatural, quite good and will read the next book when it gets cheaper.

Not sure who to recommend it to, beware of some bloody scenes, and horror. No sex, no romance (only hinted at). Changing POVs with the chapters, may be confusing for some.

when i picked this book up i was a little worried i wouldn’t like it since it was a bit more sifi than i tend to read, but i couldn’t put it down! it was so different and had so many crazy twists that i did not expect to find. i’d give it a 4.5 star if i could. the change in pov really made the dark oarks of this book all the more terrifying. currently trying to get my hands on the sequel because the ending has me in shambles. obsessed!

When an experiment goes wrong 7 teens are now stuck in a nightmarish world in their heads. It is is up to them to figure out what is going on and how they can survive/get out.

Finally, after 2 years I was able to read this book! My library (one of them) finally had it, now here is to hoping that they will get the second book faster than 2 years after the release date as I worry I may have forgotten things or am not into the story any more. I guess I could buy the book, but since this book is only 4 stars and maybe the next as well it would just mean I would buy them and then give them away again (I only keep 4.5+ stars).

This book starts off with our group of teens going to experimental therapy to cure their insomnia and then things go oh oh oh so wrong as an earthquake hits (yes, of all the things to happen) and they get stuck in their own minds in a nightmarish world that they will have to beat/survive. Next to seeing what our teens are up (through the voices of Fergus and Cata) we also get the POV of Jaime the premed student who was there to see how the research/therapy went.

While I loved seeing Fergus and Cata, and also later Jaime, I do have to say I at times thought they had the same voices. Now with Jaime it wasn’t that bad as he was in another part (the real world), but Cata and Fergus? I had to go back at times to check who was talking this time.

The nightmare world/Dreamfall and how it worked was very interesting, though also frightening as hell. All of the nightmares are terrifying and I have to say, since I could mostly read this at night, I had a few nightmares here and there. There are clowns, genocide, being buried alive, and several others. Though especially the clowns… shivers

I loved that they found out bits and pieces of how the world is working and what they are supposed to do. It was really great that they started to work together and form a team.

I also liked the Jaime parts as those gave us more insight in the characters, in what may be going on, and I just loved what Jaime did near to the end, I do hope his words find the right person.

My least favourite character? Ant. I just wasn’t a fan of this character. They had some good moments, but mostly they weren’t that helpful and even caused a few moments that had me groan in frustration.

From the start I had suspicions about Sinclair. It was just his character. He was too much of a slimeball to me. Too much trying to please people, or not even caring what he said. He was just way too suspicious and I kept wondering when he would show his true colours.

Who or what the flickering monster was? I was eager to figure it out, though at times it just frightened me too much that I couldn’t think anything other than that I wanted to run away. ;)

There are tons of twists and turns concerning characters, I have to say I never expected them, and was going AH, really??? quite a few times. :P I guess some you could have seen coming, but with how tired and fried I am given all the things in my life now, I just didn’t see them.

Oh, and bonus points to the fabulous cover!

I am just sad this one ended on a cliffhanger. sighs

This book was scary, amazing, it had an amazing atmosphere, it was delightfully dark and spooky, and it has plenty of twists and turns to keep you on your toes throughout the entire book. Recommended!

This is one chilling, fast-paced ride! If you hate horror movies, or get queasy from gore then it's best you don't read this. Definitely not for the faint-hearted!

But me? I really liked this! I love horror movies, and this would've been the perfect read over Halloween. If you've read this, the whole buried alive scene was perfectly disgusting and I could just picture every gruesome detail!

The book is told from three different perspectives; two of the seven teenagers stuck in the dream world and one pre-med student who is monitoring the comatose teenagers on the outside. I thought this was perfect! The two teenagers told different perspectives of the dream world, and the pre-med student gave us an insight to what's happening on the outside, as well as slowly revealing little secrets about the teenagers along the way from reading their medical files.

I don't recall reading the blurb for this, so I had no idea about what this was about when I started. I've read and loved Amy Plum's other books so I knew I'd like it anyway. I also didn't know this had a sequel which I need to read like... Right now! Talk about massive twisty cliffhanger at the end!

I also don't know anything about the science behind this, and whether it's realistic in any way. But I feel like it's following the sci-fi horror genre so it doesn't need to be taken too seriously.

If you're looking for a book to keep you on the edge of your seat, and get underneath your skin like a wiggly maggot then look no further!

This was an intense read. Virtually nonstop from the get-go, the book was packed with thrilling and terrifying nightmares, drama, and a host of different characters with varying anxieties. While I do think the characters could have used a little more development, I was still invested in hoping they made it out all right. The book was exciting and short and moved so fast that it's a little difficult for me to review, but I had a great time reading it. And the ending... ohhh boy. It paves the way for an intense finale that I am very excited for. If you're looking for a scary, non stop action read, this is for you!

This is an exciting speculative page turner about seven teens who are plunged literally into their own worst nightmares after a cure for severe insomnia goes wrong. So far, so 4 stars. But then it turns out to be the first in a series, so instead of ending with a flourish, it's going to be padded out into more books. Boo. See my full review here.

I'm excited for the second volume. This is a different form of science fiction.
