Lots of good information here. I'm so glad I found this book when I did. Shout-out to Peace of Mind Books in Tulsa, OK.

Phenomenally written like all of Kempton's writing. Perfect for any woman looking to grow her spirituality, regardless of denomination. Practical meditation exercises included.

I've been reading this on and off for several years. Have read the intro chapters, and some of the chapters on specific goddesses. I really like the book, just haven't been in a place where I wanted to read the whole thing.

I loved the introduction to Tantra (first two chapters), really gave me a much better understanding of this path that I am very interested in.
Then the chapters on the goddesses. At first, I thought it is not for me yet (maybe after studying Tantra in India for a bit?), and also sometimes just too far out, but nevertheless I could draw a lot of insights and realizations out of these chapters. I looked at them with an open and curious mind and heart, and all of them were helpful for my current path in their own way. I realized that the chapters were actually taking me on a journey. I started embracing them, and then I started loving them.

This book was a bit overwhelming. I actually didn't finish it, I just had to put it down. I think spirituality and religion are very personal subjects, and sometimes they just don't click. That is mainly how I felt about this book. I recently discovered Shambhala and that is a way of thinking that really resonates with me, but I couldn't quite get into the Godessess. The first few chapters were pretty dense and hard to understand if you don't already have a background of Hindu gods. I made it to the Durga chapter and did all the meditations and writing and it just didn't work for me, got nothing from it. But I could see this being a really great book for someone who is looking for that kind of thing.

If you have any interest in using your imagination to access the sacred feminine, and to explore and develop your feminine power (for men and women) I highly recommend this wise book. It will feed your heart and expand your idea of Shakti, and maybe even give you a little transmission of one or more of the goddesses. Sally is scholar as well as a mystic, and I appreciate the depth of this work.

It feels weird to mark this book as complete when I'm actually going to dive into each chapter/goddess once more and make it an extended practice to meditate with / invoke / explore each goddess. Perhaps after that, I'll have a more thorough review - for now, I'll say I absolutely adore this book. It's beautifully written and easy for me to connect with, perhaps because it has come into my life at the exact right time. I'm in love with it!
