I checked this book out from my library for this year's banned/challenged book week. It is a beginner reader book and I didn't see any problem or reason why it would be banned or challenged. It's a great way for kids to learn reading and learn Spanish words. Why not have the Chihuahua pretend to solve the mystery of where the beans went. All kids pretend to be something they aren't. Let them have fun. I thought it was pretty cute and I loved the illustrations.

It was banned/challenged because of its portrayal of Mexican culture.
