First read ever of this classic, and I can understand why it is a classic, but not why it had to be so long to make it's point.

A brilliant anti-fascist masterpiece. How hilariously it ridicules the absurdity of war with humor and the fact that any war is just a pain-in-the-ass for everyone. The book confuses you with the same humor by mixing it with tragedy, making you doubt whether anyone participating in the war is ever sane to do so or not? Whether everyone involved with the war, especially the people fighting it are the craziest ones to do so. And that makes you wonder even why the war started in the first place. What if it could have been avoided. But if it's not too late, then the protagonist trying here to avoid it with a catch is probably the only sane person right now. The other parts that constitute the war are hopeless and the book presents the same in a starkly realist way and shows how the war takes its toll from them.

this book is written for men that know way to much information about a single historical war and also listen to Lou Reed and love A Clockwork Orange. No thank you.

The humor in this book is VERY good, but I didn't feel the need to finish this one. Maybe I'll pick this up again. I have no ill will towards this book, I'm just indifferent on actually finishing it.
