Really impressed that this is a debut novel!

Even though I sometimes found I couldn’t remember the main characters name, I thought this was well written and engaging. A nice glimpse into the world of women in Reno in the 50s.

This book was a frustrating read. On one hand, it's well written, though I found the speed of the prose to be very slow for my liking (Lois, please get out of your head for the sake of the plot!)

But the characters - all of them - were absolutely insufferable. Mary Elizabeth is the only character who seems to be kind hearted, though her past ghosts make her a shell of her former self.

There are moments I want to feel sad for Lois given her circumstances, but then I remember we're given access to her inner monolouge throughout this story, and her thoughts show she's not a kind person. Sometimes I wonder who the real villain of the story is, Greer or Lois.

Anyway. Not my favorite read this year.
