A pretty good book but could be sterile and boring. Very interesting because the profiles are pretty dated, like a current First Lady Hillary Clinton or a post divorce pre death Princess Diana. They discussed some pretty cool women and the Nicole Kidman one was interesting. Definitely for Vanity Fair's middle and upper middle class, middle aged, liberal, white, wine mom audience.

The Frida Kahlo piece stated she had Munchausen's Syndrome which doesn't even make sense. I DNF'ed as I have no idea what else is incorrect.

The idea of a collection of articles written by women and about women was amazing to me. Unfortunately, this just didn't do it for me. I've actually never read Vanity Fair, and a lot of these articles seemed to be long just for the sake of taking up space, and lacked enough substance to keep me interested.

Some of these were amazing and some less than. Interesting read, especially the article on Emily Post.

A lot of these are gorgeous examples of exquisite writing and profiling on the parts of seasoned and talented journalists (Whoopi Goldberg, Barbara Bush, Emily Post, Julia Child, Meryl Streep, Monica Lewinsky). and then some of these are not (Tina Fey, Lady Gaga, Princess Diana). It’s a really mixed bag with definite low points to counter the various highs, but in the end, I’m definitely better off for reading this, which is all that really matters.

Short & sweet review: There were parts of this anthology I really enjoyed! Some of the more modern profiles are wonderful. They’re educational and inviting, and you really get to know some of these women. A few of the older profiles are surprisingly male-focused for an anthology about women - one woman’s profile is almost entirely about her husband and father. I would have loved to see some notes from the editors throughout the anthology about why they chose the specific profiles they did, and what a modern interpretation of those profiles might be. All in all, I learned a lot but was left wanting more.

Some rlly good some bad and boring, the feminist essays in the last section already feel dated even though they were written in 2018

This collections of articles is an interesting and entertaining read that talks about women and it's full of food for thought.
I liked the well written articles and was happy to read about famous women and women in general.
An interesting read, highly recommended!
