I wish I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. It was cute, don't get me wrong, but I felt like the story didn't flow well and there were parts were I was confused what was going on.
I did like the narrator, she fit the character well especially with the accent.
I'm still going to eventually read her first novel because that one sounds cute as well.

Extraordinary magical words tell the story of this girl's search to find and fulfill her destiny. With friends and a connection to those before her, she links everything with meaning.

So, so charming! The Key to Extraordinary came in my advance reader's packet for our elementary school's book fair so that I could read and promote it to the students. It is awesome, and I intend to promote the heck out of it.
Set in the mountains of Appalachia, the story centers on Emma, who is waiting for the dream all the women in her family have had to help them set their destiny. But her little town is withering away, and it looks like Granny will have to sell the bakery that serves as the heartbeat of the community. But then Emma's dream finally comes, and she thinks she knows how she's going to save them all. But dreams have a funny way of not meaning what we think they do, and Emma learns lessons about family and friendship and what real treasure is.
I'll recommend this book from second grade on up, even though second and third graders will likely enjoy it more if it's read to them by an adult. Fourth through sixth graders should love it on their own.

This was a very sweet book. There is enough going on to keep you turning the pages, and although it felt quite short, there was a fully-realized story within. The ending nearly brought me to tears! I'm quite a fan of her writing.

So sweet, charming, and just a little magical. I loved Natalie Lloyd's "A Snicker of Magic" and this book has that same wonderful feel as her first book. If you love contemporary middle grade with just a hint of magic this book's for you!
