I loved this book!! It had me genuinely scared at times which I was not expecting. It was frightening for me personally because I’ve realized in literature (and horror films) that I find the creepy old woman trope the most terrifying. The relationships are so strong and the writing is riveting and impactful. Due to the relationships being strong, I felt emotionally connected to all of the characters which made the tragedies even more daunting. So many twists and turns - I highly recommend if you like Colleen Hoover or Gillian Flynn.

Critiques: Cody became super obnoxious to me but I also generally find kids in movies and books annoying.

I really did not like how Georgina’s relationship with her father changed so drastically. It didn’t feel authentic to her character, especially because of how much she was cherishing that relationship after her mother’s death. I feel like there should have been a stronger moment between them at the end.

This story was just ok for me... It wasn't terrible, but I found myself not caring at all about what was happening and I didn't care about the characters at all. The little bits we got about them didn't really add up to anything at all. The husband has an affair with an ex, which lead to nothing... The wife found things on his computer about divorce, which lead to nothig... The neighbor next door was seen doing something suspicious, which lead to nothing... Her mom was dead and her dad was acting kind of strange and dissapeared, which was only a small part of the actual story... The "twist" was ok and it served its purpose. Again, it wasn't terrible, there just wasn't enough to make me care about any of it. I know things were meant to throw the reader off but it felt like it was just thrown together.

Despite me breezing through this, it wasn’t a great read to say the least. I found things to be a bit too predictable, and at some point there was just a lot going on that felt very unnecessary and rushed. I mainly read this to figure out the only mystery element of the plot, and I think the characters were strongly built with complex relationships and very real issues. Overall, this just didn’t do it for me.
