This series continues to be delightful and the recent trend of parodying classic lit while telling a wholly modern story is the best. Even the Dog Man and Captain Underpants books manage to get referenced and poked fun at. These books manage to land both goofiness and more serious, emotional beats in a totally accessible package. This one is no different.

The Dog Man series inspired my son to read on his own. We love the characters in the book and we laugh out loud together. Lots of fun!

If you liked Captain Underpants, then these are very similar and you would also like these. Read with Peter age 5. He picked it out at the library and asked me to read it.

A fun and funny bedtime read-aloud with a surprisingly effective weaving in of East of Eden themes amidst the silliness (including a chapter called “Timshel” and a robot character arc that ends with “And now that you don't have to be perfect, you can be good.”)
