While about half of these poems ran off like water on a duck's back - excessive use of religion as a metaphor was a tried and true classic, but it has a limited appeal to me at this point - I did thoroughly enjoy the other half. Some favorites:
- Frances Quarles, On the World
- John Gay, Songs
- William Earnest Henley, Invictus
- Francis William Bourdillon, The Night Has a Thousand Eyes
- ... and many more. :)

-She Walks in Beauty, by Lord Byron
-Ozymandias, by Percy Bysshe Shelley
-The Death Bed, by Thomas Hood
-The Old Stoic, by Emily Brontë
-Lucifer in Starlight, by George Meredith
-Evolution, by John Banister Tabb
-Invictus, by William Ernest Henly
-Solitude, by Ella Wheeler Wilcox
-Richard Cory, E. A. Robinson
-Trees, by Joyce Kilmer
-The Soldier, by Rupert Brooke
-The Negro Speaks of Rivers, by Langston Hughes
-Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night, by Dylan Thomas
By William Shakespeare
-When, In Disgrace with Fortune and Men's Eyes
