This was a really fun read! It was a total mood booster and reminded me how powerful bravery and community are. There were a lot of really complex and topical issues addressed within this book that I so appreciate. It addresses things like racism and homophobia, and intersectional experiences of being queer and a woman of color through the experiences of character Chicky. These characters were SO lovable and adorable, that may have been my favorite part about the book was how much I grew to love the main characters and their crew of friends. The plot was very well paced making this a fun read that went by really fast. I also so appreciated the allegorical effects of the space alien setting and characters as a metaphor for aspects of the Latinx experience. It is an empowering twist on the idea of Latinx people in the US as “aliens,” and I found that artistic point to be really beautiful and it added a lot of interesting insight to the character development of Lita. The only thing keeping this from a 5 star rating is that it does tend to be a little cheesy and overly reflective for my taste. I also was surprised at how casually the friends acted when seeing Lita as a stardust figure? I feel that was way too casually mentioned to be believable.

The perfect feel-good book. I loved all the space-themed prose, and the lgbtq+ rep made my queer heart so happy! My only critique is that I wish there was more (more backstory, more detail, more epilogue, more cactus birthdays…) but it’s pretty perfect how it is.
