There's an addictive quality to Lucy Foley's thrillers, and this one was no exception. Somehow I hated the characters while simultaneously feeling sorry for them - especially Miranda. Although I started the book hoping she was the one who died, I ended it wishing that she had had the chance to build a new life for herself. I also appreciated how neatly the various storylines tied together, it made for a really satisfying resolution.

So here's the thing.  It was very entertaining, and I sped through it quickly.  But, (and I hesitate to say this for fear I'll sound like an ass), I thought it was very predictable.  For reasons I won't share here because of spoilers, I thought the murderer was pretty obvious fairly early on.

This is my third book from this author, but this one was a bit disappointing. I figured it out too fast and was hoping I wouldn't be right. Furthermore, this only had like one likeable character, and a few of the points I've mentioned in the content warnings are things I don't like to read about.

College friends reunite for holiday at a hunting lodge. All goes mostly well until one of them goes missing.

This is my third Lucy Foley book and I don't know if we should "break up" up or not. This was slightly better than Paris Apartment and Guest List but the lack of character development for Priya and Giles made me confused. Why include them in the story if we don't really know who they are as people? It should have just been Katie, Miranda, Emma, Julian and Mark. I also thought the pacing was off and didn't flow well. The ending / epilogue didn't make sense to me (logically I don't believe that would have occurred in real life) Heather vaguely reminded me of the same innkeeper / host from Guest List and I couldn't shake my mind from it.

This was fine. I didn’t find anything shocking, I thought it was all pretty obvious. I know she wrote this before the guest list, but the guest list is basically a copy and pace with a slightly different who done it and why.
