Not that big of a Shatner fan, but the book was a wonderful insight into the Star Trek phenomena. Explained the struggle to get the show on air, the overwhelming amount of work needed to produce a show every week, the downhill spiral clearly evident in the third season, and the large fan following during syndication. All in all a fun and quick read.

Spent half the book rolling my eyes at Shatner but some of the stories about the cast were really interesting.

Shatner interviews others for their memories, while politely dismissing his own. Seems odd for someone with first hand knowledge to be playing the journalist.

My husband got me tickets to see him speak, and I could hardly breathe!!!! I love him. He could have printed his laundry list and I would have loved it. Not a great reason, but it's honest!

This book wasn't quite what it says on the tin...but it was still good. William Shatner is a complicated guy, but ultimately, a likeable and funny one (at least to me). I could've gone for more of his perspective on things, rather than just a recap of things I've read in other books. The parts with his thoughts were awesome. The rest was a little dry, but good. I enjoyed it, and I'm looking forward to reading his other books.

I really enjoyed this book, especially for never having seen any of the original Star Trek. It was initially a little hard to follow, as I did not know immediately who was who for all the cast and crew. I do now want to watch the series and see what was mentioned, especially for the special effects with how much of it they had to get extra creative for.

I was really worried I'd coming away not liking Shatner, but I was pleasantly surprised.

This book covers so much detail about the process of creating a Star Trek episode, with Shatner taking verbatim quotes from guys like Bob Justman and DC Fontana. It's an invaluable resource for the nuts and bolts of how the show got off the ground, with Shatner's special humor spicing every page. I really enjoyed the backstage detail, personal anecdotes, and cultural backstory to this groundbreaking show.
