'Little Pierrot Vol. 3: Starry Eyes' by Alberto Varanda begins with a splash page of children dressed like famous superheroes. This kind of whimsy is why I come back to this series.

Little Pierrot has a snail for a friend, and a crush on a girl named Emily. He has his mischievous side, like accidentally kicking a soccer ball in to a cake, or competing with the other boys for biggest booger. He's confused by things like bombs and prejudice. He likes fall because Miss Moon can't hide behind the trees as well.

This book, like the previous volumes, consists of whimsical little snapshots of Little Pierrot in his world. The art is always fabulous in this series. I think the coloring seems to be better than I remember, but I could be remembering wrong.

I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Lion Forge, Diamond Book Distributors, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

When I saw this on Edelweiss I knew I had to check out it out. I first learned about these books via Netgalley, which is where I read the first book, and I ended up checking out the second book just to read this third one

While the first two books feel like they're part of the same series, this third one is starting to change. In Starry Eyes, Little Pierrot is starting to fall in love with a classmate named Emily and instead of spending all his time gazing at the moon and stars, he is lost in her. We see Mr. Snail start to become almost invisible and when Little Pierrot has trouble talking with him, I start to get the sense that he is growing up. He is still imaginative Little Pierrot, but he's also at the age where he fancies girls and is starting to get rebellious. In a sense, his priorities have shifted. I actually found the end to be rather sad

The art is still beautiful to look at but with the illustrations being a little more down to Earth, I find myself not as mystified as before. But what made this one stand apart from the first two is that the format is changing. It still shows us little snippets every few pages but now we have the addition of words and their definitions

Big thumbs up for the arts here, magnificent illustrations! Unfortunately the «story», there is no really story at all in fact, is less interesting. Kind of blend between humor, reflexion, poetry, a mix of genre in a comic. This is definitely original, but the result was not that interesting to me. I still give points for the originality and the illustrations!
