This book consumed my afternoon before I could realize it, and it feels like I've been through therapy, girl. I absolutely loved every thing about it! I can't wait to read everything every written by Elizabeth Acevedo.

Grab some, tea, snacks and some Kleenex, then curl up somewhere cozy and get into it.

SO. GOOD.

After a flight between NYC & the Dominican Republic crashes, killing passengers, two teenaged girls are left fatherless. One girl lives in NYC and the other in DR, they have never met each other, yet they have the same father. This story in verse chronicles their individual journeys with grief and processing the discovery of a sister.

Don’t sleep on this one. It’s a stunner. I was initially unsure about the style - it’s written in prose. But it’s so beautifully done and it sucks you in so fast. This is a very quick read. Had to slow myself down to savor its loveliness. This story is sad, bold, raw, human, tragic and hopeful all at once. I want to hold these characters with me for a long time.

This broke my heart & made it whole again

This might be considered spoiler-y, so proceed with caution.
Loved this book so every, very much. The dual narrative of sisters Camino and Yahaira told such a poignantly painful and beautiful story. The loss of a father, discovering family you didn’t know you had, the love of home and finding other places for your heart to reside... I felt this in my heart!
Definitely recommend.
