This novella carries on the "Dying Earth" theme that appears in many of his other novels. Science still works for now, but magic is creeping back as the eons pass by. The prose is purple and the protagonist a shade of grey, a sure cure for excessive YA or Hemingway. I think this work handles the Luff Imbry character better, things are more out of control and you can't tell how it all will wind up.

Thanks to Mark for picking this up for me, otherwise it may have been a couple of years before I read it.
