Part memoir, part theological insights, Rabbi Watts Belser interweaves stories from her own like as a wheelchair user with midrash and analysis of Biblical figures and passages.
Especially enjoyed the last two chapters "The Radical Practice of Rest" and "G-d on Wheels". Both helped me (as a disabled person) reframe the ways that I view both Shabbat and G-d.

An amazing book. Julia Watts Belser beautifully addresses the complexities of the experiences of disabled people in faith communities in the world. While unafraid to tackle hard topics, this is a hopeful book

I am not Jewish, I am not a person of faith, and I am not disabled. Despite this I really appreciated the way this book allowed me new lens to examine disability rights and religion. perspective is key and when a new perspective is shared we are required to think and re-examine our own thoughts and beliefs.

I’m thankful to Hodder publishing for sending me a copy of this recently released book. My knowledge around Jewish traditions, writings and Torah are limited so I found this very helpful for educating me around that stuff but also in helping me to view some well known biblical stories from a different perspective. However the author does use a lot of assumptions and puts their own hopes and experiences onto the bible/ God more often than I would like to reach a conclusion. Although I don’t agree with everything the author says, there are some great points raised and it’s given me much food for through and further reflection.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in disability theology or Jewish/ Christian book clubs as there is lots of food for thought and plenty of conversation/ discussion points.
