I thought this was a great book! Once I got started it was hard to put down. I had to keep on reading to figure out what happens next. I thought the plot and characters were very well written. Tamsin is such a great main character. She is so bold and independent. She thought she was the normal and non magical of the family, but she would soon find out that she was very wrong.

I've seen this book around a lot, but I've never really looked at it. When I finally did pick it up, I really did enjoy it. Witch stories always have compelled me. This one was a fun and cute adventure.

Tamsin Greene was a relatable character. I could feel how out of place she felt, being the only one in her family who isn't Talented (powers). Trying to live up to her sister, she goes on a quest that causes more trouble than good. I didn't exactly agree with all her decisions, but I could see why she made them. I wasn't a fan of Tamsin's sister, Rowena. For whatever reason she rubbed me the wrong way. On the other hand, Gabrielle was swoon-worthy and sweet.

One a Witch was a real adventure. It was fun and a fast read. At some points it was predictable, but it had a few surprises, too.

Once a Witch was a sweet surprise. It has action, adventure, mystery, romance, good characters, and magic. A super-cute story, and I can't wait for the sequel.

I read this quite some time ago, but thought it deserved a mention. I thought that the story was very compelling. I wasn't sure what to expect, because I had heard some mixed reviews, but I was did enjoy it. Tamsin was prophesied to be a great witch, yet she lacks any Talent at the start of the book. I twas interesting to see how she tried to compensate for that lack of magical ability. Still, when I finished the book, I thought something was missing. Hopefully I won't feel the same way about the sequel.

Eh, it was ok. Not the worst teenage angst YA I've ever read. It was quick, easy, fairly plausible, if you believe in witches.

Tamsin was supposed to be her family's beacon, a witch more powerful than any that have come before her, but when her 8th birthday (the birthday when the witches in her family come into their power) comes and goes with no sign of Tamsin's power, she feels like a big disappointment. When a young professor comes into her family's shop while she is working one afternoon seeking her sister's help to find a clock his family lost generations ago, Tamsin claims to be her sister Rowena setting into motion a chain of events that will change her family and her history forever.

I love witchy tales, and this one was one of the best. MacCullough does a remarkable job setting the mood for this story and developing her characters. From the very beginning this novel had me hooked with its charming characters and mysterious family.

Tamsin is a charming character. She pretends to be her sister because for once in her life she wants someone to be asking for her and her help. Since her 8th birthday she has felt out of place in her family where everyone is so Talented.

Overall this was a charming fun read. I love the characters especially Gabriel. Her family is quirky and fun, I just wish I could have spent more time getting to know them.

Cautions for sensitive readers: Some drinking and violence.
